In class, we are working on Unit 3, lesson 1, investigation 3 right now, and hope to complete this by Wednesday.  We will be going through stations activities on Thursday and Friday, and will have a quiz review on Monday.  On Tuesday of next week, we will have the Lesson 1 quiz that deals with linear functions.  Students are welcome to sign up for Homework Club for thursday and get the help they need.

Science:

In Science, there is a unit test on energy tomorrow (Wednesday, Dec. 3)  We will be moving into chemistry on Thursday beginning with a lesson on safety and then into the basic parts of chemistry.

Social Studies:
This week had homework Monday 12/1 on Partisan Politics, rest of this week looking at the history of political parties and how they change/evolve over time.

Will have another homework sometime this week, the unit of political parties will be coming to a close soon.

English:

Students are still working on a short story unit.  We have just finished Bradbury’s “The Sound of Thunder” and will be starting Langston Hughes’ “Thank You, M’am” early next week.  Right now students are revising “Sound of Thunder” compositions (count as a quiz grade).  Each class period also came up with a class ACTION PLAN to help everyone find success in Marking Period 3.  Please ask your student about this plan – many of the plans include self-reflection, rewards for good behavior and peer help.  Each class set at least two goals they are trying to reach MP 3.

Have a great rest of the week!

Good afternoon everyone,

Here’s a quick update for you on what went on this week in Math class here at William Penn:

We completed our Unit 1 test.  All of the grades for students have been adjusted and entered into the gradebook online.  This information can be access through the Home Access program.

We have begun and completed Investigation #1, Lesson 1 of Unit 2 which deals with mean, median, mode, and graphical plots, such as histograms and dot plots.  We will continue onto investigation #2 next week.  Expectr your students to have homework at least twice next week!

Today is the last day of the first marking period!!!!  It has been a pleasure having the chance ot work with all of you in building success in your student’s freshman year here at William Penn High School.  I look forward to continuing the progress that we have made here in the classroom, and I expect much greater things to come in the very near future!

Have a great weekend!

Good morning everyone,

Here is your beginning of the week update for the Team E math class!

This morning we are finishing up our Unit test.  Those grades will be uploaded throughout the week onto Home Access after students have completed those assessments.  With any questions regarding your students progress or test results, please feel free to contact us.

Tomorrow we will begin Unit 2, which deals with plotting histograms, number line plots, and scatter plots, and also understanding measures of center (mean, median, and mode).  We should complete Investigation 1 this week, and you can expect students to have homework in the “On your Own” packet throughout the class week starting tomorrow evening.

Also, just a note, the 1st marking period will come to a close this friday, and report cards should be sent home during the middle of next week.

Thank you once again for your time, and have a great week!

Regards,

September 25, 2008

Good morning everyone,

This week we have finished up our lessons for Unit 1, and all students will be taking that exam later today.  Exams should be graded and entered into the gradebook by late this week or early next week.  Please feel free to check up for that update on the Home Access site.  Tomorrow we will be completing a stations activity in class to draw the Unit 1 to a close.  This activity will be placed in the gradebook as an assessment grade, so if a student had difficulty on this test today, then the stations activity will certainly help them out in the gradebook.  Monday of next week we will begin Unit 2 that deals with graphing and plotting data on calculators.  This Unit will move slowly, due to the need for the students to be very versed in the calculator commands, so it will take time to perfect those skills.

With any questions, feel free to contact us.  Thank you for your time, and have a great rest of the work week.
